Improve your site with these web-mastery
tools
Free website development tools
Improving your site is so much easier with
the right tools. Better still when they're
free. And that's what webmasters will find
on this page: FREE website tools. Tons of
them!
While building my own sites and publishing
eProfitNews internet marketing ezine, I've
discovered a lot of great webmaster tools,
utilities and software... online and downloadable.
On this page, you'll find the best of the
free stuff.
And I keep adding new tools as I find them.
If you'd like to be notified when new tools
are added, simply subscribe to eProfitNews
ezine. If you're online to make money,
you've got a lot to gain by joining our mailing
list.
By the way, I've used most of these webmaster
tools while developing my
various sites. Some tools are better than
others, but they're all helpful.
And here they are...
3D headings. Make
your own with this free download.
Add URL page.
How to set your links pages up for maximum
effectiveness.
Ad
Wizard holds a list of your favorite classified
sites like a bookmark program, keeps track
of when you last entered your ad there, and
based on an adjustable number of days it lets
you know it's time to re-enter it. And it'll
do all the typing for you. Just put the cursor
in the first text box and click the Type button
to watch AdWizard fill the form out for you.
Autoresponders. Free with just 1 small
ad.
Bandwidth monitor. So you know how much
bandwidth you've used this week. If you're
paying for bandwidth, use this to avoid nasty
surprises on your credit card. Use this with
the page size checker below.
Browser check - for security risks. Here's
a free online test of the vulnerability of
your computer or network. It's run by Qualys
who do this sort of thing for corporations.
It tests for 7 vulnerabilities: cookie disclosure
(if hackers can steal your cookies, they can
impersonate you to other websites and get
access to any personal info about you at those
sites), clipboard reading, program execution,
file execution, web page spoofing (where they
mimic a well-known site in the hope that you
might enter some of your personal data), security
zone spoofing (if you are vulnerable, hackers
can install their programs at will on your
PC), hard drive access. Test results take
a few seconds to come back so patience is
rewarded. And if you surf with a popup killer
on, you'll have to turn it off to get all
the results screens to display.
Business name and tag line generator.
Your business name can make or break you.
Dont overlook this wisdom when you select
the identity and motto for your business,
offline or online.
Button maker. Create buttons online in
2 minutes, free. They have bevelled edges
so the buttons look "raised up". Completely
customisable. You get to choose the size in
pixels, the background texture, your own wording
of course plus the size and font of your text.
Plus there's a 3D option to display raised
up text. Tip: Write down the selections you
choose for each of these fields because it
doesnt retain them when you click on the Back
button.
Free
classified advertising at AdTrack
Color converter. Hands down, this is the
best chart I've found. It's one long table
showing you the name of the color in alphabetical
order, its hex designation (hex color codes
begin with # - for example, blue is #0000FF),
its RGB component numbers (that's red, green
and blue), its MSAccess code plus a good sized
swatch of the color. Over 500 color definitions
in this huge resource. The 16 most websafe
colors are asterisked* and there's a separate
chart of the 216
websafe colors.
CSS validator. If your Cascading Style
Sheets arent working right, this should pinpoint
the problem.
Domain name ideas generator. This fascinating
"Connected Thesaurus" by Lexical FreeNet allows
you to feed in 1 or 2 words and select what
kind of matches you're looking for. It gave
me 63 words related to the word 'profit'.
Use it to generate keywords for your meta
tags.
Doorways. Make 200 at once if you like,
but be aware that search engines now downgrade
doorway sites so it's worth the effort to
individualise each page to some extent. Here's
another free
doorway page maker. Examples of doorway
pages: 1,

Ebook compiler 1. Everything you can think
of is here in Sunil Tanna's Activ E-Book Compiler.
No wonder Tucows awarded it 4 Cows. $29.95
but you can download it and use it for FREE.
Only pay for it if you like it... I love it!
Ebook
compiler 2 . Jimmy Brown also lets you
download his FREE.
EbookCoverCentral.
Not free but the best price I've seen for
professional ecovers. $39.99 gets you 3 different
sizes.
Email address protector. A few simple
lines of code that you can easily add to any
webpage containing your address. It will stop
spammers using their robots to collect your
email address.
Email address protector 2. Encoding email
addresses (into hexadecimal language - dont
worry, it's easy... just one click!) prevents
them from being harvested. I would also suggest
you add a blank space before or after the
@ sign, like this... name @address.com. Most
people wont notice the difference but the
robots will. FREE. Best to insert the blank
after the @ sign to avoid the possibility
of spambots simply taking a guess and adding
their junk mail to webmaster@yourdomain.com
after they harvested "@yourdomain.com" from
your webpage.
Email
address protector 3. Encrypt your email
links here, online and free. Just type the
email address you want to protect and the
visible text, then click.
FillOut
Manager helps you fill out Internet forms
very fast. Drag the text (including multiple
lines) from the program and drop it into the
space you want to fill. Great for posting
Classified Ads, storing passwords, URLs, etc.
FREE.
Firewalls.
Plus access to free virus scanning.
Flash for free. Well not quite, but Swish
is free software that allows you to create
great Flash presentations without having to
learn (or buy) Macromedia Flash.
FTP Explorer. "Explorer" is a hint that
it works like Microsoft's Windows Explorer.
"FTP" stands for File Transfer Protocol which
simply means it's a handy piece of software
for transferring files from one computer (such
as yours after you've downloaded something)
to another computer (such as your webhost's
server - for example an ebook website that
you've just collected from eBookWholesaler.net
that you now want to begin promoting). The
features
I like best are: it works in the background,
it resumes its data transfer if your connection
gets cut off mid-way, and you can queue up
several jobs. Plus it's FREE/shareware for
individual educational and personal use. Here's
how
to use FTP to upload a website to your
server. (If asked, select port 21, and login
with your account username and password.)
Gateway pages are pages you dont want
to rank highly with the search engines. A.k.a.
crawler or hallway pages, they are submitted
to the SEs which then crawl them to discover
the pages you do want highly ranked. This
may boost your rankings. This tutorial includes
a brilliant "I can recreate that" example
of a gateway page which he deconstructs
for you.

HTML validator. This is the official W3C
HTML Validation Service. It shows you what's
wrong and suggests ways to fix it.
IP address. Are you sharing yours? This
could lead to your site being penalised if
another site with the same (numeric) IP address
falls foul of the search engines, eg. by over-submitting
or spamming. Use this link to get your IP
address, enter it into the address panel of
your web browser, and hit Return. If your
web site appears, you have your own IP address.
If it doesnt, you probably share the IP address
with others.

get rid of non-image data in your JPG files.

It offers a lot of optional analysis parameters,
allowing you to see a detailed comparison
any 2 pages. It lists every word plus 2- and
3-word phrases. You can also "Store my settings
in a cookie".
Keyword

results. Red means it's over-used, green means
under-used. It lists every word if you wish.
Keyword

it. A helpful, time saving tool indeed. Imagine
clicking manually on 92 links!

else I've seen. Get a "health check"

Search term frequencies. Enter your search
term and this tool will list related keywords
and their estimated number of searches for
those words per month. Very handy when determining
which keywords to focus on as you develop
a new webpage or tweak an existing one. When
I discovered there are only 6 searches a month
for 'proofreader', and only 3 related keywords
(all low scoring too), I decided to include
my proofreading
services at this site rather than launch
a new domain.

There most certainly is.
